Vista is all about Security! To the extreme! Consequently, tasks that ran fine under XP don't run under Vista. And since I am an add-in developer and user, it presents a real delimna. I am hopeful that Microsoft will either put out some fixes or some helpful bulletins right away.
A user of one of our products posted on our forum that he was having problems trying to install an add-in, built in VS 2005, and installs fine in XP but can't get started with the install in Vista. I quicly ran a search in Google and came up with several links. The user posted again and said the link shown below was the key to his problem.
Thanks to Roland Weigelt for his post.
Here is the quote from the user's last post.
"That first link was the key. I guess with Microsoft trying to put diapers on all of us Vista users, the ability to run an installer can only be done by more experienced and privileged "Administrator" users.
The easiest way is to navigate to WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe, right-click on it and select 'Run as Administrator'. After that, I just had to navigate to where I stored the installer and run it from the command line.
Oh, well...
Thanks for the help...I never would've thought to run it that way because I never received any helpful alerts when I tried to run it from within Windows."
Hope this link will help you while we try to come up with a better answer for our customers.
